Hubballi: The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), the lifeline of the north Karnataka region, is preparing to launch an exclusive Diabetic Care Clinic within its old OPD building. Dr. Ramalingappa Antartani, the Director of KIMS, expressed his enthusiasm for this dedicated facility for diabetic patients and announced that the inauguration date will be revealed soon.
The idea of establishing the Diabetic Care Clinic has been in the works for some time, but it faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other priorities. However, the project is now gaining momentum and will soon become a reality.
The clinic aims to cater to the large number of diabetic patients who visit KIMS Hospital from surrounding districts. Oftentimes, patients are unaware of their diabetes, making early detection and comprehensive treatment crucial. To address this, the clinic will bring together a team of specialists from various departments, including general medicine, surgery, neurology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, endocrinology, and more, to offer consultations for various diabetes-related complications.
Dr. Ishwar Hasabi, the Head of the Medicine Department, explained that the clinic will provide all the necessary screenings and treatments under one roof. Some of the general surgeons have undergone special training to focus on screening and treating diabetic foot complications, which can be severely affected by high blood sugar levels. The clinic’s comprehensive approach aims to prevent or delay many of the side effects associated with diabetes.
By centralizing diabetic care services, the clinic will help patients manage their condition more effectively, raise awareness about potential complications, and ensure better treatment outcomes. The new Diabetic Care Clinic will be established at the old gynecology department within the old OPD building at KIMS Hubballi.
KIMS Director Dr Ramalingappa said that it was long pending demand of the patients, “It will be very beneficial for the diabetic patients. With this clinic, KIMS will be adding another facility,” he said.
