Hubballi: The medical superintendent of the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on Monday instructed all the head of the departments to do six hours of general Covid duty for five days.

The circular ( the copy of the circular is with ‘Hubli Express’) reads “As per the district authority instructions, all the HODs of the respective departments are hereby instructed to do general COVID ward duties.”

According to the sources in KIMS, few HODs used to work in Covid wards but many used to skip that duty citing age or comorbidities or some reasons.

The issue of underutilisation of experience of doctors in treating Covid patients came to the fore during the meeting and he instructed optimal utilisation of doctors to treat Covid infected patients. Hence the circular was issued on Monday said a source.

But many doctors who spoke with ‘Hubli Express,’ expressed doubt that the order would remain on the papers and in reality, nothing will happen.

KIMS is treating the highest number of Covid infected patients and it has made a good name in the pandemic because of its quality of treatment by its doctors and its medical staff.

One of the doctors said that already one medical intern and two staffs working on each floor of the Covid ward, he suspects that the HODs may not go there and perform their duties. This is just order and it would remain as an order for the namesake, the doctor said. According to the roster, first, 17 HODs duties begin on May 25 and ends on May 29 and the remaining 17 HODs duties start on May 30 and end on June 3, as per the schedule.

In this pandemic all the doctors  are doing Covid duty, in the first wave, all the HODs did Covid duty and this time also we deputed them for the Covid work and there is nothing special in this
