Hubballi: The Keshwapur police nabbed two notorious thieves and seized valuables worth Rs 8 lakh from them, including 91 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh, silver articles weighing 5.75 kg worth Rs 2.50 lakh, and an Indica Vistara car worth Rs 2 lakh. Apart from this, the police also managed to seize hardware and steel items from them.
The police team led by Keshwapur police station inspector Jagadish Hanchinal arrested the accused. All the accused are residents of Belagavi Vaibhav Nagar and they are a notorious gang known for housebreaking thefts, said the inspector. Hanchinal said that the team used to roam in the car at night, which they stole, keeping all the hardware, including an electric gas cutter. They used to search locked houses. Once they identified them, they used to break into houses.
The police solved four cases by arresting the duo. One more accused is still at large. The police team is in pursuit of that accused also, said Jagadish Hanchinal. He said the gang was involved in over 25 house-breaking theft cases.
According to the police sources, the thieves tried to break into a house in Keshwapur police station limits, just a day before the President of India’s programme in Hubballi. The alert police team went to the spot based on the tip-off, but they escaped from the spot, leaving behind their car. The police nabbed them on Saturday.
