Karnataka seeks special funds for rain havoc

Bengaluru: Since all tanks are overflowing across the state, the central team has been asked to consult as a special case and pressurised to release the special funds, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said the central team was apprised the current situation in the wake of unprecedented rains in the months of July, August and the first week of the current month. Even details of rainfall are given. The team was infoyabiur the floods in South and North Interior Karnataka, coastal areas and Bengaluru City . They were given information regarding the damages to crops, houses and infrastructure, death of animal husbandry. The central team will divide into four teams and visit the different districts. After their visit, one round of meeting will be held with them to submit a memorandum. Last week, one memorandum was submitted and the same will be updated and submit a detailed memorandum.

Important points brought to notice

Bommai said problems faced by Bengaluru reside, inundation of low-lying areas due to filling up of tanks and preliminary damages are calculated. Damage to fishing boats, Landslides, and rushing of rainwater into shops and commercial complexes were brought to their notice. Since it was not possible to provide relief under NDRF rules, team was requested to give special relief for damages to boats, shops and houses. Besides, special relief must be given in the wake of the filling up of all tanks. Normally, the flood water will recede in two or three days but here floods are occurring every day. Once the team members complete the inspection they would be given more information, he added.
Four teams to visit districts
One team has been sent to Mahadevapura in Bengaluru. From there, they will go to Ramanagar, Mandya, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Karwar in a helicopter.
Another team will visit Chitradurga, Chikmagalur and another team to Bidar and Kalburagi districts.
