Hubballi: Sudheendra Kulkarni, political analyst, and former officer on special duty for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has opined that the Karnataka state election holds the key to national politics.
In a press conference, Kulkarni urged the public to vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that if the Congress party wins, the anti-BJP coalition will gain strength at the national level.
Kulkarni expressed his belief that the entire nation is eagerly waiting for the results of the Karnataka state elections, as the signs suggest that the BJP is likely to lose. He stated that a BJP defeat in the state would provide a moral boost to opposition parties across the country.
Kulkarni further stated that the BJP has completely transformed and should step down from power at both the state and center levels. He criticized the party’s “double engine” government concept, which he believes is anti-democratic and unconstitutional. Kulkarni argued that the concept essentially gives one driver, Modi and Amit Shah, the remote control for both the center and states, rendering the Chief Minister powerless and without dignity.
Kulkarni emphasized the importance of the multi-party system, which he believes is the foundation of democracy. According to him, the Constitution of India mandates that the Central Government should work with all the states on the principles of equal justice and impartiality, irrespective of the ruling party. However, Kulkarni expressed his displeasure with the BJP’s policy, which he believes is the opposite of this principle. He stated that he wants an opposition party that ensures a free India, like Communist China.
Kulkarni urged voters in the state to vote for a stable Congress government rather than an unstable one. He expressed his desire to see Congress candidates win across North Karnataka, including former BJP leader Jagdish Shettar. He called for the prevention of the unethical politics called Operation Kamala from repeating.
Finally, Kulkarni evoked the memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who he believes did not engage in immoral politics. Kulkarni stated that if Vajpayee were alive today and L.K. Advani had been politically active, they would have opposed the current politics of the BJP. Kulkarni argued that if the BJP had followed Vajpayee’s example instead of the current Operation Kamala model, they could have retained power at the center. He also expressed his belief that vote banks based on caste and religion are harmful to democracy.
