Karnataka: anti-conversion bill likely to be tabled before the House today.

Belagavi: The anti-conversion bill (Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill 2021), which was approved by the Karnataka cabinet, is expected to be tabled before the House on Tuesday.

The proposed law was met with fierce criticism from a variety of quarters, and the opposition parties are fighting it tooth and nail. The law was approved by the cabinet meeting in Belagavi Monday.

Forcible conversion of persons from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, as well as minors and women, to another faith, is proposed as a maximum sentence of ten years in prison in the proposed bill.
