Hubballi: Congress corporators who changed their decision at the last moment to attend President Draupadi Murmu’s Poura Sanmana programme came in a group. When they entered the venue, they found that the seats that were reserved for them were occupied, and they searched for the chairs, but did not find one. After standing for a few minutes, they sat on the ground as a mark of protest. Later, seating arrangements were made for them in front of the first row.
The leader of the opposition in the HDMC council, Dooraj Mannikuntla, had announced that they had decided not to attend the event, claiming that the BJP leaders neglected them and that it had become a BJP programme instead of civic honour, but in the morning, Congress city district president Altaf Hallur announced that they would be attending the event along with Congress corporators after MLA Prasad Abbayya’s name was included in the list of dignitaries to be present on the dais with the President.
