Judicial Custody of Actor Darshan and 16 Others Extended in Renukaswamy Murder Case
In a significant development in the Renukaswamy murder case, the 24th ACMM Court in Bengaluru has extended the judicial custody of 17 accused, including actor Darshan, until September 17, 2024. The case, which has garnered widespread attention, saw the accused appear before the court via video conference from various prisons across the state.
Among those present were Darshan, who appeared from Ballari Jail, along with Pavitragowda and Deepak from Parappana Agrahara Jail, and Anukumar, Jagadish, and Ravi from Tumakuru Jail. The judge carried out an inquiry during the hearing, calling the names of the accused to confirm their presence.
The defense lawyers representing the accused raised concerns over the incomplete submission of evidence by the prosecution. “The full charge sheet has not been provided, and the police are yet to submit digital evidence. Additionally, certified records of statements given under CrPC 164 have not been made available,” the defense argued.
Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar responded by assuring the court that digital evidence would be submitted next week. In light of this, the defense requested that the case be transferred to the Sessions Court once the technical evidence is presented.
The judge ruled that the transfer to the Sessions Court would only occur after the evidence submission and extended the judicial custody of all 17 accused until September 17. The case continues to unfold with keen public interest, as the submission of crucial digital evidence is expected in the coming days.
