Hubballi: Garbage collection in the Twin Cities is ineffective for various reasons, despite the installation of RFID tags on houses for effective door-to-door collection. Pourakarmikas give a miss to their routines very often. In some areas, the civic labours scan the tag with the RFID readers, claiming that the vehicle is on the way and it will be collected in just a few minutes, but garbage tippers fail to appear in those areas on those days.
Hence, to solve this problem, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi suggested installing RFID tags on the garbage buckets so that the problem may be solved. He asked Smart City officials and HDMC officials to think over this and take a decision in this regard at the earliest.
According to HDMC Commissioner Dr Gopal Krishna B, there is some technology available that allows the tags to be attached to the buckets. ” Recently we went to Delhi and saw this, and we informed the minister about this, and we will discuss this matter in the general body meeting of HDMC. It will be discussed at length and breadth, and all pros and cons will be examined, and later a decision will be made in this regard,” he said.
