Hubballi: Sonia Gandhi, the stalwart of the Indian National Congress, is set to embark on her first election campaign in four years, as she addresses a public meeting in Hubballi on Saturday.
The party has fielded former chief minister Jagadish Shettar from Hubballi-Dharwad (Central) constituency, where Sonia will be addressing the public gathering. It is said that the rally is a part of the Congress party’s last-minute push to unseat the ruling BJP in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.
Despite her health issues, the 76-year-old leader is stepping up to energize the Congress’s campaign and attract voters in the Lingayat-dominated Kittur region, which is considered to be a strong vote bank for the BJP.
Many Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have addressed several rallies in Karnataka, but Sonia’s presence in Hubballi is expected to make a significant impact. And it is expected that it would boost the morale of the Congress party workers and instill fresh energy in them.
Sonia Gandhi’s rally is significant as Shettar has been campaigning on his own so far, with only a recent whirlwind campaign by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and a roadshow by Kannada star Shivarajkumar in his support which will happen on Friday afternoon. The Congress party’s decision to bring Sonia Gandhi to campaign for Shettar underscores the power and influence that he wields in the region.
Sonia’s rally in Hubballi is expected to give a much-needed boost to the Congress party’s election campaign in the region. After the rally, Sonia will return to Delhi on the same day.
