Hubballi: Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has accused his former party colleague and Union Minister, Pralhad Joshi, of using his name and efforts during previous elections but not doing enough to secure him a ticket in the upcoming assembly elections.
Shettar revealed the efforts he made to make Joshi a Member of Parliament four times in a row, including distributing pamphlets highlighting his photos and name and sending his wife to campaign for him when he was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Shettar also claimed that he declined the offer of entering national politics in 1994, and the opportunity eventually went to Joshi, for whom he put in extra effort to make sure he wins with a good margin.
According to him, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi did not make sufficient efforts to support his candidature for the upcoming assembly elections. Shettar claimed that he did not put enough pressure on the party’s high command to secure a ticket for him. Shettar also criticized Chief Minister Bommai for failing to secure a ticket for a senior party leader like him, which raised questions about their commitment and “efforts”.
Shettar alleged that BL Santosh and his group had tried to prevent several senior BJP leaders, including MLA S Sureshkumar and Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, from getting tickets, but they managed to secure them anyway. Because of Santosh MLA Ramadass missed ticket.
He also accused Santosh of preventing G Madhusudhan from getting a party ticket in a recent MLC election and promoting his own favorite, Ravi Shankar, who was soundly defeated.
Shettar said he strongly recommended Madhusudhan’s name but claimed that Santosh wanted to promote Shankar. He predicted that the BJP would suffer the same fate in the Hubballi Central and Mahesh Tenginkai will be defeated with a good margin.
