Chikkamagaluru: Around 20 students opted not to write their 10th standard preparatory exam after school authorities denied entry to those wearing hijab at a school in Indavar in Chikkamagaluru district on Tuesday, sources said.
The students were allegedly denied entry into the school campus after they arrived at school wearing hijab. The students denied removing it after the school authorities asked them to do so claiming that they were not wearing hijab but a veil.
Later, parents also joined the students, and they started arguing that it was not a hijab but a veil given by the school authorities along with the uniform. They were just wearing the veil, which is part of the school uniform, around their neck and head. “We agree that wearing hijab is not allowed as of now, but who said wearing a veil is not allowed?” one parent asked media angrily.
Following the issue, the DDPI announced a holiday for the school, said sources.
