Dharwad: The Income Tax Department (IT) conducted a raid on the residence of Prashant Kekare, the personal assistant of former minister Vinay Kulkarni in Dharwad on Thursday, local sources said.
Kulkarni is a Congress candidate from the Dharwad Rural constituency, contesting against the BJP’s Amrut Desai. According to local sources, IT officials arrived at Kekare’s house in the Saptapur area and searched for documents.
This comes just days after Kulkarni had accused the BJP of misusing central agencies like the IT department during election time to target political opponents.
The Congress party has expressed suspicion over the timing of the raid, alleging that it could be a ploy by the BJP to disrupt their political opponents during the campaign. They have further accused the IT department of acting under the directive of the union BJP government.
The IT department has not yet released any official statement regarding the raid. However, this development has raised eyebrows and is likely to become a topic of political debate in the ongoing elections.
