Israel reports its first polio case since 1989.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has confirmed the presence of polio in a 4-year-old child in Jerusalem.

According to a news source citing Israeli media, this is the first case of polio diagnosed in Israel since 1989. The youngster was not immunized as part of the usual immunizations given to children in Israel, according to the ministry. According to the statement, the source of the disease, in this case, is a strain of poliovirus that has altered and can cause disease in persons who have not been vaccinated.

Following the infection, the ministry urged people to get their routine immunizations at the prescribed periods and to finish their shots if they hadn’t already.

The ministry’s regional health administration in Jerusalem has launched an epidemiological inquiry and will contact persons close to the youngster for specific advice.
