Hubballi: The chances of rain in the North Karnataka region are very low for the next two days. However, cloudy weather will continue, and a few isolated places can get scattered rain, said Agromet Department head Dr. RH Patil.
He said the IMD has issued a rain forecast for the second fortnight of August and September and it says major parts of South India are likely to receive above normal rainfall in this period. He said the north interior of Karnataka is expected to receive above normal rainfall, whereas Malenadu and coastal Karnataka will probably receive below normal rainfall.
The rain has receded in the Dharwad district, but the continuous downpour that lashed the district has damaged the crop. Harvesting of green gram using machinery can be continued, and steps should be taken to protect it from drizzling. Dr. Patil added that weeding and fertilising can be done in the fields of maize, cotton, chilli, onion, and other kharif crops.
