Hubballi: A house committee was constituted to take a decision on installing the Lord Ganesha idol at Hubballi’s Idgah grounds as per the decision of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s (HDMC) general body meeting.
The decision was taken during the general body meeting held on Thursday. BJP Corporator Santosh Chavan will lead the committee, while BJP corporators Shivu Menasinkai and Suresh Bedre, and Congress corporators Niranjan Hiremath and Imran Yaligar have been named as the members of the committee.
The Public Relations Officer of HDMC SC Bevur has been named as the coordinating officer to assist the members. On Friday, Shivasena leader Pramod Mutalik and Hanumanthsa Niranjan of Rani Chennamma Maidan Ganesh Utsava samiti and others submitted a memorandum to the committee head, Santosh Chavan, to allow them to install the idol. They said that the festival should be celebrated by the public. If the HDMC instals the idol, then they have to celebrate all the festivals from the HDMC. Hence, they requested the committee to take a suitable decision.
It is also said that AIMIM corporators submitted a memorandum to the Mayor in connection with the issue, but not to the committee.
