Una, Himachal Pradesh: Amid ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, a mysterious metallic object believed to resemble parts of a missile was discovered in Behad village, near the renowned Chintpurni temple in Una district, officials reported on Saturday, according to local reports.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 am, when locals were startled by a loud explosion in the village, which lies just about 10 km from the temple. At the time, the entire area was plunged into darkness due to a power outage, adding to the tension.
Behad village is close to the Punjab border, which spans over 500 kilometers along Pakistan. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported. On Saturday morning, villagers came across the unidentified object and promptly alerted the local authorities.
Preliminary reports suggest that the object is not active or dangerous, though a team of experts has been dispatched to examine it further. District officials suspect it could be a fragment from a defused rocket, possibly linked to attempted attacks from Pakistan on Friday night in the northern region.
Following the incident, police have sealed off the area and advised residents to stay cautious and avoid approaching any unfamiliar or suspicious items, as they could still pose a threat.
Elsewhere in Himachal Pradesh, residents of Hamirpur district also had a restless night. Around 2 am, the sound of military aircraft overhead prompted many to switch off lights in their homes, fearing potential attacks.
Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh has instructed all departments to stay on high alert and be ready for any emergency. He also appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumors or misinformation, especially content generated by AI or deepfake technology, urging everyone to verify facts before sharing anything online.
