On Mother’s Day, the Indian Railways introduced a distinct ‘Baby Berth’ (seats for newly born children) aboard trains, allowing infants to sleep beside their mothers.
Lower berths, which were formerly exclusively for women, have been moved adjacent to baby berths, allowing small children to travel alongside their mothers without difficulty.
These additional berths for small children are currently being put on a trial basis in several trains.
Two slots have been added to the Lucknow Mail, which runs from Lucknow to New Delhi, according to official sources. The railways will not charge an additional fee for the infant seat.
The railway took to social media app Koo and said “Facilitating ease of travel for mothers travelling with their babies. Indian Railways introduced baby berth on an experimental basis in Lucknow Mail 12229/30, Coach No. 194129/B4, berth No. 12 & 60. The fitted baby berth is foldable & secured with a stopper.”
“Under the leadership of AshwiniVaishnaw ji, Indian Railways is introducing innovative features Now, the Indian Railways has introduced foldable baby berths. This baby berth will ensure the safety of little children,” BJP MLA Arvind Limbavali wrote in one of his Koo post.
“New initiatives taken by Indian Railways in long-distance trains to make the sleeping of the children easier convenient and adjacent to their mother’s berth while travelling. This will ensure that mothers should not spend the sleepless nights during tour,” wrote BJP MP Dilip Ghosh
