Hubballi: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the South West monsoon winds are expected to enter the Indian subcontinent through Kerala by May 27.
In a statement, Dr RH Patil, principal nodal officer, GKMS Units, UAS Dharwad, said that based on the strength of the monsoon clouds, it may take 4–7 days for the monsoon to cover Karnataka.
The normal onset date for the monsoon over Kerala is 1 June, and IMD has been predicting its entry since 2005. For this, the IMD uses indigenously developed statistical models and has a margin of error of 4 days. Except for 2015, every IMD prediction has been correct in the last 17 years, said Dr RH Patil, and he suggested farmers keep their lands, seeds, and fertilisers ready to start their agriculture-related work.
On cyclone Asani effect on this part of Karnataka, Dr Patil said the weather would remain cloudy for the next two days and after that dry weather would prevail in most parts of Karnataka till the end of this month.
