Hubballi: Arvind Bellad, the MLA from Hubballi-Dharwad (West), criticized former chief minister Jagadish Shettar for leaving the party and joining the Congress. Bellad stated that if Shettar was truly hurt by the party’s decision, he should have contested as an Independent and won, instead of switching to the opposition party.
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Monday, Bellad expressed disappointment with Shettar’s decision, noting that the party had given him numerous responsibilities and made him a strong leader, having been elected six times. Bellad also mentioned that the party had decided to field a new face from Hubballi Central constituency this time, and as a senior politician, Shettar should have encouraged and invited next-generation leaders to contest, rather than leaving the party over not receiving a ticket to contest the elections.
Arvind Bellad emphasized that Shettar’s departure would not affect the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as the party has been fair to the Lingayat community, allowing 67 candidates from the community to contest in the upcoming assembly elections. Bellad expressed confidence that the BJP would prove Hubballi Central constituency as its stronghold and win the election convincingly.
Nagaraj Chabbi party candidate from Kalaghatagi, MR Patil, party candidate from Kundagol, Lingaraj Patil, Basavaraj Kundagolmath, Guru Patil, and others were present during the press conference.
