Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, SR Patil, has said that if the high command asks him to contest the Assembly election, he would run from any seat that they suggest.
SR Patil told reporters after meeting Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah here on Saturday that he had been a member of the upper house for the last 25 years and that if the party’s high command wants him to contest the Assembly election, he would do so from any seat.
He also said that he is still with Congress and is not maintaining any distance from the party. Reacting to a question on Siddaramaiah contesting the election from the Kolar Assembly seat, SR Patil said that the leader is under pressure after getting many invitations. However, he stated that he would run in the election at the suggestion of the party’s high command.
Patil believes that the former CM should run for re-election in Badami because his presence would boost the morale and energy of party workers in the surrounding district, and the party would perform much better in Badami’s surrounding assembly segments. It was demonstrated in the previous election, he claimed.
