Hubballi: Police Commissioner Labhu Ram has said that the police have registered six cases in connection with violence reported last night and arrested 40 people so far, and the police teams are likely to make more arrests.
12 policemen, including a police inspector and a head constable, suffered injuries in the stone-pelting incident. He said as many as seven police vehicles were damaged.
Section 144 of the CrPC, he said, has been imposed in Hubballi city to prevent any untoward incidents.He stated that those who were involved in the violence would not be spared and that if people who had suffered losses came forward, more cases would be filed.
He said, a man was arrested following a complaint about allegedly posting a derogatory video on social media and he was brought to the station and his arrest was communicated to the community leaders also despite this large number of people gathered outside and they started agitation and soon it turned violent. They threw stones at policemen, police vehicles, and the police station also.
In the incident, 12 policemen were injured, two of whom were admitted to a hospital and the remaining were discharged after initial treatment, he said.
