Hubballi to house regional centre of Jayadeva Institute

Hubballi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that a regional centre of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Centre would be established in Hubballi at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

Locals welcomed this announcement and asked the government to implement it without any delay.

When Siddaramaiah was the chief minister, he had announced in the budget that the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hubballi would have a cardiology wing in association with the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, but it did not happen. Now, Bommai has announced a regional centre of the premier health care institute.

The CM also promised that the ESIC hospital in Hubballi would be upgraded to 100 beds from its present 50 beds this year.

The government kept aside Rs 1,000 crore for the implementation of the Mahadayi project. The CM also promised the speedy implementation of the Dharwad-Kittur railway line, which will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 927 crore.

CM said that steps would be taken to run the Hubballi Forensic Science Laboratory by making appointments.

He said more industries would be established in Dharwad, Haveri, Davangere, Chitradurga, and Belagavi, all falling under the Mumbai-Bengaluru-Chennai industrial corridor.

He also announced a new textile park at Ranebennur in Haveri district and Navalgund in Dharwad district.

To encourage start-ups beyond Bengaluru, the clusters are being run by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission in Hubballi. Mysuru and Mangaluru will get a RS 20 crore fund.

Previous governments promised in previous budgets that the Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience would be developed on par with Bengaluru’s National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, but the promise was not kept because the government did not make sufficient efforts to develop this well-known mental health science institute, which serves patients from nine surrounding districts.
