Hubballi: The Hubballi police have arrested an accused in connection with the murder of an eight-year-old boy who was found murdered in a Doddamani Chawl in Bendigeri police station limits on Friday.
The Hubballi police arrested the accused,36, a resident of Hubballi within 48 hours of the crime, and he has been sent to judicial custody. The accused, who is a resident of Hubballi, was reportedly known to the victim.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the victim asked the accused for Rs 5. The accused, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, gave the money to the boy. However, when the boy pleaded to give Rs five extra, the accused refused to oblige. The boy reportedly threw a stone at the accused, who in a fit of rage, slapped the boy, causing him to fall unconscious.
The accused, panicked by the situation, took the boy to a nearby open space covered with bushes, and may have tried to wake him up, but to no avail. He then took a boulder and smashed the boy’s face to hide his identity and ensure that he would not be identified by anyone. Before fleeing the scene, the accused removed the boy’s clothes to further conceal his identity. However, some ladies appeared near the site, forcing him to abandon the clothes and run away.
The accused worked as a helper for plumbing-related work under the victim’s grandfather. Â Police have not revealed the identity of the accused.
