Hubballi: In the age of digitalization, searching for customer care numbers or booking services online has become an everyday norm. However, the ease of finding information on the internet comes with a hidden danger of online scams and cyber fraud.
A recent incident of cyber fraud has left a 32-year-old housewife devastated, as she lost a whopping Rs 1.43 lakh to fraudsters. The victim had ordered clothes online from a popular shopping site for her child, but the delivery was delayed. Frustrated by the delay, the lady searched for the customer care number of the company to inquire about the status of her order.
To her dismay, the number she found turned out to be a fraudulent one, and the person who answered her call posed as a representative of the company. The fraudster lured the lady into sharing personal details and an OTP, under the guise of verifying her identity for assistance. However, the call turned out to be a trap, and the lady ended up losing her hard-earned money to the fraudsters.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of being cautious while dealing with online transactions and sharing personal information. In the digital era, it is essential to be vigilant and verify the authenticity of any phone numbers or information found online, to avoid falling prey to such scams.
