Hubballi, June 30: Jyoti Patil and Santosh Chavan have been elected as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, for the 24th term of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). The election was held on Monday, with 87 out of 90 eligible voters casting their votes.
Jyoti Patil, a corporator from Ward 19, secured 47 votes to win the mayoral post. Her contenders were Suvarna Kalakuntla (Ward 59) and Waheeda Khanum Allabakhsh Kittur (Ward 76).
Santosh Chavan, representing Ward 49, also secured 47 votes to emerge victorious in the Deputy Mayor election. He defeated Shambugouda Rudragouda Salmani of Ward 14.
The voting was conducted by a show of hands and presided over by Belagavi Division Regional Commissioner and Election Officer S.B. Shettenavar. Out of the total 90 eligible voters, including corporators, MLAs, MLCs, and Lok Sabha MPs, 87 participated while three remained absent.
Additional Regional Commissioner S.S. Biradar and HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali were present during the election process.
