Hubballi: The Gokul Road police have successfully resolved a theft case where the accused swindled Rs 26 lakh by skillfully diverting a man’s attention.
The incident transpired near Secure Hospital on Gokul Road recently, where the accused managed to flee with a substantial sum of cash belonging to a contractor from Pune. The contractor, in pursuit of laborers, journeyed to Hubballi after receiving a call from the accused, who promised to provide the 300 laborers required for his ongoing contract undertakings.
Upon his arrival in the city, the contractor engaged in a conversation with two of the three accused, who skillfully maintained his attention. In the meantime, the third accused seized the opportunity to escape with a bag containing the cash that was left in the contractor’s car.
The Gokul Road police swiftly initiated proceedings, resulting in the arrest of Manjunath, Basavaraj, and Hulagappa, all residents of Hubballi and natives of Mundagod. A significant breakthrough, the police managed to recover Rs 14 lakh from the arrested suspects, along with a Duo moped used in the commission of the crime.
Despite initial challenges, the police utilized CCTV footage to gather crucial leads in the case. While tracing the suspects proved challenging, they said.
