Hubballi: Four people suffered burn injuries, including three women and a 4-year-old, in the Bendigeri police station limits in Hubballi after a cylinder exploded in a temple.
The fire accident happened at Kariyamma Devi temple in Veerapur Oni, locals said. It is said that Ayyappa Swami devotees built a sannidhan in the temple and used it to offer prayers and cook meals. According to sources, the blast occurred when priest Prashant Hiremath went inside and opened the door.
“Maybe gas leakage has happened, and burning incense sticks might have caused the explosion,” said the source. In the fire accident, Aishwarya Bijawad, 22, Saraswathi Yamanur, 35, Prakash Hiremath, 35, and Namita Bijawad, 4, suffered 25 to 30 percent burn injuries, said sources.
