Hubballi: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar has claimed that the state BJP government is planning to go for early polls under the pretext of rising COVID cases. “I got unofficial information that the BJP is seriously considering holding an early election, and they have also instructed the Director General of Police to begin preparations, and they are discussing it in the cabinet meeting, and they got information from the Prime Minister as well,” he said. “But whatever it may be, we are ready to face the election at any time,” he said.
Speaking to reporters at Hubballi airport, Shivakumar also raised suspicion about the COVID wave. “These are all the lame reasons to stop the success of the Congress party; the BJP is scared of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, hence the name of the COVID protocol; hence they want to curb it, just like our Mekedatu Yatra,” he said.
Meanwhile, CM Basavaraj Bommai reacted to media at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, said he came to know about the statement DK Shivakumar and said whatever he said was not true, the BJP is not planning for early polls, no such developments are happening. The party is not at all mulling going for an early Assembly election, he said.
