Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager, South Western Railway inaugurated the new Divisional Control Office of Hubballi Division at Divisional Railway Manager’s Office in the city recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeev Kishore, appreciated this new infrastructure provided with modern facilities and motivated the Control Office staff to work with more vigor and dedication in this new aesthetically built office.
Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager of Hubballi said that Control Office is the nerve center of Railways. Working at Control Office is very strenuous and in this background, it is necessary that their workplace is ergonomically designed and provides a lively work environment. He appreciated the Officers & Staff for working diligently to ensure smooth train operations. With the increase in train operations, doubling, electrification, and modernization of railway network, more spacious Control Room to accommodate additional staff and equipment was necessitated and accordingly this new control room of size 48 M X 15 M has been constructed with ground floor and first floor and provided with various facilities. It is a fully air-conditioned office and well-furnished, he said.
P.K. Mishra, Additional General Manager, and H.S. Verma, Principal Chief Operations Manager also spoke on the occasion.
Control Office is the Command and Control Centre which works 24 X 7 with the real-time collection of information as well as dissemination of information to station/yards. The train operations over the length of 1328 KM of Hubballi Division is monitored and controlled by the Divisional Control Office by managing all the requirements needed for train operations like Crew arrangement, Loco arrangement, Fuelling of Locos, Cleaning, and Watering of coaches, arranging for attention and rectification in case of failure of railway assets, monitoring safety and security, monitoring maintenance and line blocks, passenger ticketing, loading/unloading, etc. The Control room ensures optimum utilization of assets such as rolling stock, path, crew, maintaining punctuality of trains, and has the onus of managing unusual occurrences by coordinating with various Departments and agencies.
As a mission of digitalizing working by Indian Railways, the activities of TrainControl Office have been digitalized by the providing Control Office Application (COA), Freight Operations Information System (FOIS), Coaching Operation Information System (COIS), Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to control Traction Power Supply, Provision of Conference System for Disaster Management, etc. Train controlling is done through a modern computer-aided system called Control Office Application (COA) system.
The Control Room consists of various departmental controls like Traffic Control, Power Control, Carriage& Wagon Control, Engineering Control, Commercial Control Security Control, Signal & Telecommunication Control, Electrical Control, Traction Control, Crew Control, etc.
