Bengaluru: Members of the Hubballi-Dharwad Development Forum, an association of academics, professionals, and members from trade and industry in the Hubballi-Dharwad region, met Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Monday.
The HDDF delegation, comprising Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, former CM Jagadish Shettar, Ministers Halappa Achar, Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, MLAs Aravind Bellad, and CM Nimbannavar, led by its chairman Dr. Vijay Sankeshwar, had a detailed discussion on various issues regarding the development of the NK region, especially the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad.
The HDDF delegation has requested Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to accord a Special Investment Region (SIR) to Hubballi-Dharwad by enacting a state act on the lines of the Gujarat SIR Act-2009. They requested the CM to enact a new SIR Act to facilitate the administration of SIRs in the state. develop a framework for SIR, and establish a regional development authority with empowerment.
Accelerate the process of establishing the Dharwad node.
The delegation also requested the CM to accelerate the process of establishing the Dharwad node in the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor project. Dharwad is one of the priority nodes of the project. The delegation appealed to the CM to acquire a large land bank as preparedness and identify priority sectors for the project in consultation. They also said that a land bank of 500 acres each for food and textile parks needs to be created in the region to establish congruence of BMIC and SIR projects on the Gujarat model.
Hold a meeting with FMCG companies.
The team urged the Chief Minister to hold a meeting with the FMCG groups and negotiate terms with them, and to get approval from the finance department. They urged the CM to consider this proposal as soon as possible because other states are competing to attract FMCG.
Launch Park at Gamangatti or Ittigatti
The delegation asked the Chief Minister to establish a 100-acre launch park either at Gamangatti or Ittigatti Industrial Area by KIADB.
They said that land in the park needs to be allotted to only successful graduating companies from approved incubation centres (state or centre) and to create enabling common facilities for the tech startups.
