Hubballi: A Shanti Nagar resident has written to the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, seeking permission for death by euthanasia. The man claimed that he supplied COVID equipment to Kaduru Taluk and Mudigere Taluk during the COVID wave, but Chikkamagaluru district officials made unnecessary delays in making payment and seeking commission to clear his bills.
The contractor, Basavaraj Amargol, speaking to reporters, said he was unable to bear the torture of the lenders and, hence, the Office of the President should give direction to clear the pending bills or give permission to die via euthanasia.
He said that he supplied COVID equipment like PPE kits and other items worth Rs 85 lakh and Rs 27 lakh to Kadur and Mudigere taluks respectively, and said he had received only 20 percent of the total pending payment so far.
“I have been requesting the Taluk Panchayat EO for the release of pending payment, but he is demanding commission in MLAs and in other names to release the amount.” Basavaraj charged and further stated that the Prime Ministers’ office, Chief Minister’s office and RDPR ministry’s additional secretary had given direction to release the amount, but despite that they were not releasing the amount. He said that he suffered a lot due to lenders’ harassment as he borrowed money from them to supply the equipment. Hence, with no options left, he wrote a letter seeking euthanasia, he said.
