Hubballi: Conmen sell fake gold to a welder and a washerman, flee with Rs 10 lakh

Hubballi: A welder and a washerman, in a bid to buy gold at a cheap price, were duped by conmen, and the duo lost Rs 10 lakh to these tricksters. The victims are Mahesh Ganjarpalli, a welder, and Srinivasalu Gurupasal, a washerman, both residents of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.

The Hubballi Rural police said that the conmen approached the victims over the phone and informed them that they had found gold while they were excavating soil for a building foundation in Hubballi. And they need to pay Rs 10 lakh for one kilogram of gold. The conmen asked the duo to come to Gollarhatti village in Kudlagi taluk. The duo went to that village where the conmen gave them three small pieces of original gold and made them believe that they had got pure gold and were intending to sell it at a very low price.

The conmen asked the duo to come to Bhandiwada Cross with cash to buy the gold, and the victims went to Bhandiwada Cross on October 20, and the fraudsters handed over fake gold pieces to the victims after receiving the cash. At the same time, two bike-borne men who are said to be part of the gang alert the victims and their partners that police are coming to the spot and they need to go from there immediately. And within a minute, all the conmen escaped from the place. The victim later came to know that they were cheated and they registered a case with the Hubballi Rural police.
