Thiruvananthapuram, 08 May (HS): A boat capsized at Tuval beach near Ottumpuram in Tanur area of Kerala’s Malappuram district on Sunday evening. 22 people died in this accident. There are also nine children among the dead. It is not clear how many people were aboard this boat. But 39 tickets were sold. This information was provided by the police.
President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar have expressed deep grief over the accident.
While issuing condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced to give two lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased from the PM Relief Fund. Kerala Chief Minister and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also expressed grief over the boat accident.
Police said nine passengers were rushed to nearby private and government hospitals. His treatment is going on. The condition of four of them is critical. Rescue operation is on. Tanur resident boat owner Nasir is absconding. A case of murder has been registered against him. The boat was not at all travel friendly. The fishing boat was converted and used for tourism.
The Kerala government has declared one-day state mourning on this accident. Kerala minister V Abdurrahman has said that the accident happened around 7 pm. The sunken boat has been brought to the shore. The operation is on to find the remaining missing people.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has expressed grief over the accident. The Chief Minister’s Office has said that there will be state mourning on Monday. Chief Minister Vijayan has canceled all government programs as a mark of respect to the victims. He will visit Tuval beach today.
