Hubballi: A North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) bus driver and conductor returned a bag containing cash of Rs 65,000 and important documents to its rightful owner.
According to NWKRTC officials, a city-based textile dealer, Srinivas Habib, a resident of Kamaripet, boarded an NWKRTC Rajahamsa Bus in Belagavi on Monday and alighted at Gokul Road, leaving behind the bag.
The bag was discovered by the bus driver, Jagdish, and conductor SV Hallikattimath during a regular examination of the bus after the last journey before parking the bus at the Hubballi rural bus depot.
They handed over the bag to the depot manager, and after opening it, they found the cash, a PAN card, an ATM card, and a few important documents. They immediately informed their higher officers, and on Wednesday, the bag was returned to the owner in the presence of the driver, conductor, and senior officers.
The NWKRTC, Hubballi Rural Division Controller, H. Ramangoudar, hailed the honesty of the driver and conductor, and he termed them the ambassadors of honesty. Their honesty is a model for others, and their actions have improved the image of the corporation, he said.
Both the driver and conductor were felicitated by the senior officers.
Speaking on the occasion, the owner of the bag, Srinivas Habib, said that he was disappointed by losing the cash and documents and that it could have taken months to earn such a large sum of money. He expressed his gratitude to the conductor and driver.
On the occasion, divisional traffic officer SS Majumdar, divisional mechanical engineer Praveen Idoor, administrator Nagamani, depot manager Basappa Poojari and others were present.
