Bagalkote: Tension prevailed in Rabkavi and Banahatti towns in Bagalkot district after a few students attached to a government PU college started staging protest wearing hijab, and students belonging to different faith started protesting against those students wearing hijab.
The protest turned violent when a few miscreants started hurling stones at the college. The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Sources said that a student suffered a head injury after being hit by a stone.
Following this incident, the college administration announced a holiday for the college.
Similar kinds of protests and violence were reported from a government PU college in Shivamogga, located in Bapuji Nagar. Sources said that few students suffered injuries in the stone-pelting incidents and police used mild force to scatter the protesting students. The students tie a saffron flag to a flag post located on the college premises.
In Udupi, students attached to MGM college started staging a protest against Hijab-wearing students wearing saffron shawls and saffron turbans.
