Hubballi: Though many districts have witnessed protests and violence over the hijab issue, the twin cities, especially Hubballi, has remained calm till date, but a few students who came to college staged a protest in front of the college after the college authority asked them to enter the college, removing the hijab.
The incident happened at SJMVS’s Women’s College in JC Nagar. Sources said that the teachers and management asked students who came in hijabs to remove it and enter the college, but the students refused to do so and started arguing that they would enter the college wearing hijabs. The teachers tried to convince them to follow the court’s direction. The college administration allegedly closed the gate and did not allow them to enter.
The students, who were later joined by community members, started staging a protest in front of the college.
The police commissioner, Labhu Ram, visited the spot, and the police cleared the mob. The College administration announced a holiday for the college following this incident.
