Belagavi: On Tuesday, Dr. K Sudhakar, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, officially opened the Genome Sequencing Lab at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences.
Following the rapid spread of the new COVID variation Omicron across the state, the government has realized that more genome sequencing labs are urgently needed. Nasopharyngeal samples collected from the patients in this part of the state were previously transported to Bengaluru for genome sequencing in order to detect new Coronavirus variants. As samples from across the state piled up at labs in Bengaluru, the genetic sequence report was usually accessible to doctors at the tail end of the treatment or patient’s recovery.
