Hubballi: The Leader of the Opposition in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) Council, Rajarao (Doraj) Mannikuntal, celebrated Tipu Jayanti at his office in the HDMC central office on Thursday.
The LOP was asked to furnish a written answer for celebrating the erstwhile Mysuru ruler’s birth anniversary despite the state government’s ban on celebrating his Jayanti at government offices within three days. The HDMC council secretary served the notice to him, attaching the government’s order banning the celebration of Tipu Jayanti at government offices.
Congress leader, former mayor Anil Kumar Patil, HDMC member Imran Yaligar, former HDMC member Mohan Hiremani, and others took part in the celebration.
Tipu is pride; we celebrated it.
The leader of the opposition in the HDMC said that they celebrated the Jayanti out of pride, love, and affection toward Tipu. “We did not know that the government had banned the celebration at the government offices,” he said, adding that the mayor could have informed the members of this in advance. “Anyway, they allowed to celebrate the Jayanti on government property (Idgah), but he is opposing it because we did it in our office. I will furnish the reply after seeking guidance from the MLA,” said the Congress leader.
