Hubballi: The house committee, formed by Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri as per the decision of the general body meeting of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), received 28 applications in favour of the installation of the Ganesh idol at the idgah, while they received 11 applications opposing this.
The committee led by BJP corporator Santosh Chavan submitted the report to the mayor at his office on Monday evening. Congress corporators Niranjan Hiremath and Imran Yaligar on Monday evening said that they oppose the formation of the committee, said the head of the committee, Chavan.
He alleged that despite asking both Congress leaders to come to the meeting, both members opted not to come, Imran Yaligar came on Monday for an hour or so, and Niranjan Hiremath came on Sunday afternoon and Monday, too. He was with the other committee members, said Chavan.
Imran refuses to pose for a photograph.
Imran Yaligar and Niranjan Hiremath arrived late at the mayor’s office, and the submission of the report was delayed because of this. Imran, though he came to the mayor’s office, did not stay for a minute. Also, he walked out and refused to pose for a photograph while submitting the report to the mayor.
Six Ganesh Utsav Mandalis have sought permission from the committee allowing them to install the idol.
Chavan said his committee had sought opinions from legal experts and from people of all faiths and castes on this issue, and the report was prepared after considering all the aspects.
Mayor Anchatgeri said that the Ganesha idol would be installed by one of the Ganesh Utsav Mandalis and that the name of that Mandali would be announced on Tuesday morning. He said that the idol would be installed where the tricolour is hoisted every year on the Idgah grounds.
Mayor announced that a Ganesh Mandal would be allowed to install Ganesh idol at Idgah grounds for three days this year.
