The Haveri police have arrested a group of interstate robbers and seized from them cash totaling over Rs 34.50 lakh, one airgun, six rounds, 32 box pellets, six cell phones, five cars, three laptops, and other items used to execute the robbery.
The four people detained—all natives of Kerala—have been identified as Anthony alias Antappan, 22, Abbas ES Perayiri, 38, Nishad Babu alias Babu T, 47, and Bharat Kumar alias Kutta, 29.
Police said that the gang used to target businessmen who transport gold or Hawala money. Hanumantaraya, the superintendent of police, praised the team that arrested the accused.
The offenders were apprehended by the Byadagi police in connection with a dacoit case that had been reported to them. The police said that the group had robbed a Mysuru resident, Mahesh Nangre, by intervening his car near Chattra village in Byadagi taluk on the National Highway’s service road on November 21 night.
The accused had stolen the victim’s car and Rs 50 lakh in cash by tying his and fellow passenger Hrishkesh’s hands and legs and dumping them on the side of the road.
The gang robbed a jeweller near Arbail Ghat, which is under the Yallapur police station’s jurisdiction, said the police. According to the police, the total value of the seized items exceeds Rs 1 crore.
The gang Under the command of SP Hanumantaraya, a team consisting of DySP Shivanand Chalwadi, CPI Siddharoodha Badiger, and Santosh Patil arrested the accused.
