Going cashless: NWKRTC launches travel cards

Belagavi: On Tuesday, the NWKRTC launched a travel card scheme in Belagavi to allow regular commuters to travel cashless.

MLA Abhay Patil inaugurated the scheme by symbolically giving cards to some beneficiaries. He stated that one of the Smart City project’s goals is to promote public transportation.

The aim of introducing these cards is to encourage cashless transactions within the city limits. The cards will solve the issue of loose change and which also result in hassle-free travel in the buses for passengers.

It will also save time for the conductor. This will allow for faster transit in Belagavi, which aspires to be a Smart City, he said. He stated that this is the first time the NWKRTC has issued travel cards for city commuting.

The cards use Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) and are only available on some intra-city routes, including Anagol, Vadagaon, and Yallur. Commuters on these scheduled routes who pay more than Rs 250 to the bus conductor will get a 10% travel credit bonus.

Divisional Controller PY Naik, Divisional Traffic Officer Khemsing Lamanai, Chief Personnel Manager Vijayashree Naragund, System Manager M.B. Kapali and others were present.
