Hubballi: A Muslim inspector has offered another example of communal harmony in the city that has witnessed communal violence recently. The Inspector of Gokul Road Police Station, Jakeer Pasha Mohammed Sab Kalimirchi, personally carried the Ganesh idol to the station for installation.
Kalimirchi, wearing traditional Hindu clothes and a bright red ’tilak’ on his forehead, brought the statue of Lord Ganesh to the station on Wednesday while chanting the Lord’s name.
Kalimirchi who is an ardent follower of Basavanna and Kuvempu, believes that all religions are equal, and God is one.
“Allah is my highest God as a Muslim.” But it doesn’t mean I can’t respect other people’s beliefs. Within the four walls of our homes, we should be Hindus or Muslims. “We should just be humans outside,” he remarked. He went on to say that his upbringing and exposure in an environment where Shishunal Sharif’s philosophy was widely followed taught him to embrace all religions equally.
