Jiteshwari Devi, a former royal from Panna, Madhya Pradesh, was arrested during Sri Krishna Janmashtami for allegedly violating temple rules by entering its inner sanctum.
She attempted to lead the ‘aarti’ and later stumbled when trying to access the sanctum, causing a disturbance. A viral video showed her arguing with temple authorities and the police, with claims of intoxication.
Only male royal family members traditionally perform the Janmashtami “Chaanwar” ritual, but due to her son’s absence, she undertook it herself. Following her arrest, Jiteshwari Devi accused the Madhya Pradesh government of embezzling Rs 65,000 crore from the Defence Welfare Fund in Panna, attributing her arrest to her vocal stance against the alleged corruption. The incident continues to garner public attention and scrutiny.
