Hubballi: Former CM Jagadish Shettar flew to Bengaluru in a chopper belonging to his relative, Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa and Ganesh Shamnur, as he resigned from his MLA post and announced that he would take a final decision on his political future in the state capital.
Speaking to reporters in Hubballi on Sunday afternoon, Shettar confirmed that he had not submitted his resignation from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and that he was still a member of the party. He stated that he had not yet decided whether to contest as an independent candidate or join another political party, but he would make a decision, eventually.
When asked about the invitation from the Congress party and the two choppers sent to take him to Bengaluru, Shettar clarified that the choppers belonged to his relative, Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa and Ganesh Shamnur, who were in Hubballi for some personal work and offered him a ride to the state capital.
Responding to criticism from former CM Yediyurappa, who accused Shettar of betraying the party despite being given everything, Shettar retorted by reminding Yediyurappa of his own actions in 2012 when he floated a new party.
Shettar also stated that he had declined the offer of Rajya Sabha membership, as he aspired to be just an MLA and nothing more. He also clarified that the party leadership did not offer a ministerial berth to him in the union cabinet.
As Shettar’s political future in Karnataka remains uncertain, he affirmed he would decide after consulting with his close contacts and considering all options available to him.
As soon as Shettar arrived at Hubballi Airport, Congress party workers welcomed Jagadish Shettar, they raised slogans hailing Shettar and Congress. Girish Gadigeppagoudar and others were present.
