Hubballi: Tensions escalated in front of Navanagar police station following the gherao of right-wing activists to the police station. Right-wing activists have staged a Dharna on the steps of the police station, seeking the arrest of an accused who allegedly attempted to forcefully convert a Dalit person.

The activists want the accused arrested and the police commissioner to speak with them. MLA Arvind Bellad also came to the station after hearing the news.

According to the police report, a resident of Navanagar was asking a resident of Mantur Road to join Christianity and abandon his faith. The accused had become friends with the victim and was attempting to persuade him to join Christianity.

On Sunday, the accused approached the victim at the Navanagar vegetable market and began insulting him.

The Navanagar/APMC police have filed a complaint against the accused in accordance with the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act 2005 (U/S-3(1)(r)(3)(1)) (s).

The protesters in the evening blocked Hubballi Dharwad road and it was cleared after half an hour.
