Hospet: Five people were killed on the spot after the multi-utility vehicle in which they were travelling met with an accident near Banavi Kallu village in Kudalagi taluk in Vijayanagar district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Police said that around 14 people in a Trax were going to Rameshwar in Tamil Nadu from their village of Nidgundi in Vijayapur district.
It said that the driver of the vehicle lost control of his vehicle after the axel of the vehicle broke. The vehicle veered off the road and toppled twice before coming to a halt.
Two passengers suffered grievous injuries, while the others sustained minor injuries. The injured were rushed to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) Hospital in Ballari.
Deceased have been identified Siddayya Kalagi (48), Kallavva (60), Kuntavva (50), Nilamma (54), and Laxmibai (64). All are residents of Nidagindi village in Vijayapura district.
