Indian Railways had set up Diesel Loco Shed in Hubballi for maintenance of HHP diesel locomotives in the year 1999. The locomotive holding of the shed has increased from 13 locomotives in the year 2000 to 239 locomotives in 2022, and it has been fondly referred as Mother Shed of HHP locomotives of Indian Railways.
To add another feather in the cap of South Western Railway, Hubballi shed is being augmented with electric locomotives and the shed had received first electric locomotive (WAG9HG) in the month of August 2022. Today, two AC electric locomotives (multiple unit) named “Malaprabha” & “Ghataprabha” were flagged off and dedicated to the service of the nation by Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager of South Western Railway at Diesel Loco Shed, Hubballi, in presence of P.K. Mishra, AGM/SWR. On this occasion, Jaipal Singh, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer; Arvind Malkhede, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubballi and other Principal Heads of the departments, Bhesh Dutt, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Diesel Loco Shed), employees of Diesel Shed, trade union representatives were present.
Further, P.K.Mishra, Additional General Manager, South Western Railway, inaugurated locomotive engine lube oil storage facility in Diesel Shed, Hubballi, in presence of Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager of South Western Railway. The lube oil storage facility has been built by M/s. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
As part of Swachatha Pakhwada, Shramdan and tree plantation were also conducted with the participation of the General Manager and all other officers.
