Udupi: Election officers seized a sum of Rs 50,000 cash from a businessman’s bag who had come to welcome and meet KPCC President DK Shivakumar at Hareshirur helipad near Byandoor on Sunday, said sources. The businessman in question, UB Shetty, is believed to be a close associate of Shivakumar.
According to sources, officers on duty checked Shetty’s suitcase and discovered the cash, prompting them to issue a receipt after counting and seizing it. The incident has raised eyebrows and questions regarding the purpose of the cash and its intended use.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar himself raised objections over the checking of his chopper, which he was using for campaigning. Although he expressed no objection to the inspection, he urged the officers to expedite the process to prevent any delays in his campaign plans, reported local media.
This recent turn of events has further intensified the scrutiny of election campaigns in the region and highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in electoral practices. The authorities continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action to ensure fair and impartial elections.
