The Election Commission of India (ECI) has no immediate plans to announce a bypoll for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification due to his criminal defamation conviction.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, stated that Gandhi has 30 days to appeal the decision, and therefore there is no rush to hold a by-election. The ECI has six months to conduct a by-election once a seat falls vacant.
